Collection Notes: For appropriate clinical interpretation this test requires the comparison of an acute serum sample to a convalescent serum sample. Collect the convalescent specimen 2 – 3 weeks later. Store the acute sample at or below 4º C until the convalescent sample is obtained. Submit both samples together for testing, clearly identified and dated.
Clinical Utility: A four-fold rise in titer during convalescence is indicative of a recent infection.
