Collection Notes: Collect specimen in a Red-top (no-gel) tube. Centrifuge as soon as possible after clot formation. Separate the serum from the cells. Freeze. Hemolyzed specimens are not acceptable. Specimens from patients that were administered biotin within 8 hours prior to collection are not acceptable. Transport frozen serum.
Clinical Utility: Useful for the evaluation of bone disease. Osteocalcin levels may aid in the therapeutic management of the patient.
