Collection Notes: Collect specimen in a royal blue topped, EDTA Trace Metal tube. Hemolyzed or clotted specimens are not acceptable. Separate plasma from RBCs via centrifugation. Discard plasma. Transfer RBCs to a metal-free screw-top vial and transport at room temperature.
Clinical Utility: Zinc levels are used to detect and monitor industrial, dietary, and accidental exposure to zinc. Also, Zinc measurements may be used to evaluate health and monitor response to treatment.
